Installing a K&N filter is not going to kelp one iota. That's a bunch of hooey and K&N admits it. Its good for business that those rumors are all over the internet but trust me, it does not improve your mileage by just changing the air filter.
GM tweaked all the mpg they could out of the truck, all the crap out there proposing to give you better mileage is only costing you more money.
You are driving 2.5 tons of steel and it take fuel to move it. Sorry, if you want better mileage you got to get rid of the truck and buy a Volt.
How can people get better mileage when the maker make no claims to that effect? Its all BS, that's what it is.
And with those who sincerely think it increase mpg you will find they started driving more conservatively after installing the filer and that's what accounts for better mileage, not simply replacing a good air filter with another brand.
We certainly understand why it is theoretically possible for a consumer to experience a mileage increase after installing a K&N air filter or intake system, however, we do not go so far as to make a general claim that our air filters and intake systems will provide an increase in mileage.
theoretically - Restricted to theory; not practical.
Common sense is not all the common
I have owned over 10 trucks over the last 30 yrs and nothing ever increased the mileage to make the cost of the upgrade worth the expense.
PS - If you alter your PCM you will void your powertrain warranty forever. The new trucks can log every event that occurs and if you have drive train problems and they hook up and find the pcm was reprogrammed, GM will void the warranty on the vehicle and it cannot be re-instated ever. Its branded forever.
