hey i know the manual for a 2000 1500 vortec specifies 5w30 but i have a bunch of 10w 30, will there be any complications if i substitute for the summer months??

There is no problem on your using the 10W30 in the summer or winter.

On my 98, I use 5w30, and I plan on using 10w30 in the spring and summer with full confidence. I think they say 5w30 is "preferred" because of emissions, and/or mileage. Just a teeny bit less drag in the engine might give that extra tenth of a MPG.
