The factory sub is a 2ohm 8" and it can be replaced with most aftermarket 8" subs into the stock enclosure. If you want to go a little bigger, there is enough space behind the panel to have a custom enclosure built to house a 10" sub.

I put an 8" Polk/MOMO MM2084 in the back quarter panel of a friends 2001 Tahoe. Not all 8" will fit as it is not a very deep opening and I also added an aftermarket amp to power it. Sounds great! I believe though the factory sub is an 8" 2 ohm, and all the other factory speakers in the Tahoe are 2 ohm.

Also, it is very easy to remove and replace the factory subwoofer back there. I can't remember if there were screws or not, I believe there were. Look everywhere on that panel for screws, then once you're sure you got them all out just pop it out. The clips that hold it in are grabbing the panel pretty good, so you might have to muscle it out a bit.

It's been like 7 years since I worked on one, you do have to remove the plastic trim piece behind the door where the seat belt attaches to on the wall. That piece of plastic blocks 2 clips that snap in.
