Exclamation Speedometer INOP

03 Yukon SLT 4x4 202K miles, speedometer would work fine, quit while driving, start again within a minute and be fine for weeks, then do the same thing again once in a while. This happened a handful of times. Then one day it quit and never did come back to life. It is the only thing on the instrument cluster that isn't working. I was told that there are two sensors on the transmission/transfer case, that could be the problems. I know a guy at the parts store that is pretty smart, and he said that they were common parts to need replaced on these vehicles, I changed to cheap one, and it didn't fix it. The other one is more expensive, but I was hoping for some input before I go to throwing more parts and money at it without knowing what will fix it.

Thanks guys.

If there is no check engine light on and the Yukon is performing 100%. The it will not be any sensor that is the issue. Most likely the stepper motor in the instrument cluster has gone bad and will need to be replaced.

You can ether replace the whole cluster or just the stepper motor for under $25,00 if you do the job your self. Here is a link that should help you get the job done. http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/sho...r-Motor%28s%29

Good luck and keep us posted.
