I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 5.3. It had been making an odd noise when driving that would stop if you slightly applied throttle or slightly let off. I decided it was related to the AFM. I ordered a AFM disabler to go in the OBD port. The noise has completely stopped now. My question is this: should i be assuming i have lifter issues since the disabler stopped the odd noises? Should i be considering getting into the valvetrain or should I just drive since the noise appears to be gone? Am i doing more damage by continuing to drive it?

Hello Andy,
I haven't been on the site in a while and just saw your text. My 2013 Sierra had serious AFM issues. I did look into getting it fixed but ever mechanic I talked or looked at it wanted to pull the engine out to work on it or sell me a rebuilt engine. Either way it was going to cost big bucks. I installed an AFM disabler about a year ago. So far so good. The truck has 125,000 miles on it with quarter panel rust which I am debating whether to get fixed again. It has been running great and I am going to keep until something big happens. I hope that helps.

Regards,
Bob
