I have a 2003 GMC Sierra with a 4.3L V6, automatic transmission, and 2WD. It has ~107K miles on it currently.
I have travelled alot recently and has sat for 2 weeks out of the last 6 months and been driven sparingly in the 2 weeks I'm home. When I start it up I find that the fan and RPMs on the engine are typically high for the first 15-20 minutes and the tranny shifts at higher RPMs than normal but then returns to normal.
Yesterday however I found that I it is having those same symptoms and it has very little power and acceleration until I get over 20 MPH. I drove it for a while last night and today and it is still exhibiting the same issue. I have been home and driving it alot for the last 2 weeks as well and it has behaved normal duing that period.
I have recently tuned the truck up, put a new air cleaner, and PCV valve. I also ran some injector cleaner through the tank on a 250 mile drive, the day before the symptoms began.
There is no grinding or non-normal noises and the truck has the normal power/acceleration/torque in reverse and past 20MPH. The truck appears to just be shifting late in 1st gear and having little to no acceleration/torque until 20MPH.
I suspect it's a vacuum hose (some to the canister on the drivers side of the engine compartment) or mass airflow sensor, any other thoughts on potential causes? If you think it's any of the above, can you please indicate where in the engine compartment or chassis the component is located.
Thanks.
John
