Any one had issues with suddenly losing oil presure. Trucks worked fine and kept about 275 kpa's for the last few years.
In the cold weather it had a "ticking" when you first started up but cleared after it warmed up (a couple of miuates). Started it on the weekend and the "LOW OIL PREASURE" measage came up. The gauge came up to 275 then slowly worked it's way down to about 140 kpa and held there. It developed a tick, sounded like bottom of the motor and stayed until I shut it off. Started it again later that day, oil presure started at 275 then dropped to 140. Started it today to take it to the machanics and oil preasure didn't register at all for about 5 seconds then up to 275 and crept down to 140 over about 4 minuates, no "ticking" noise since the first time.
The trucks a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Automatic 4x4 w/197,000 km's on it. It's a 4.8 L V8 all original except for the coolant pump.
Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated. If the engines pooched could I put a 5.3 L in the same truck or is it a big job?.
