Hey guys,

so i have a 03 GMC sonoma. 4cyl 2.2L 5speed.

just two days ago i was driving home from work and as i turned on my truck it was sputtering, shifted from first to second gear, and as soon as i hit 3rd gear, it was running from, as soon as I got home, it completely shut off, tried turning it on a couple times and it was wanting to turn on but it wasnt wanting to kick over, so finally the check engine came on with the code P0171 System too lean (bank 1). so after i found out what I needed to do I took off the MAF system and cleaned the hell out of it(was little smeared gas in the bank connected to the MAF) with MAF cleaner. and replaced the tube the 7/32 GM6148-M tube because it was busted to shit. after i put everything back together, i let it reset and the code disappeared.

Tried to turn it on again, still have the same problem of wanting to kick over but its not. my dad said its the fuel pump and its not sending in enough gas to start.

also, we checked fuses are relays and they're all fine.

so today we were checking out the truck again after a day or two of sitting, and it almost started. we set the key to ON and we heard the fuel pump wind up and pressurize so my father said the fuel pump is still working. but my question is can the fuel pump go bad but work but not as well as it should? or it a it works or doesnt work part?

tomorrow we are going to pressure check from the fuel filter inline to see if it is giving off the right amount of pressure. but if the fuel pump is working fine the only other solution is a clogged fuel filter(was replaced back in November 2013)

Can anyone put any insight on the problem? much appreciated! :)
