Hello, I just purchased an '05 Sierra 1500 5.3L Z71 with 76k on the clock. It was my former work vehicle so it was regularly maintained and the only issues (so I thought) were related to it sitting for 6 months before my purchase. I replaced the battery (d.o.a.), rear drum brakes (rusted out), front brake lines (rusted out), front wheel bearings (rusted causing ABS malfunction) and thought I had it all addressed. Now I'm getting a problem with the heater and just before winter!!
When set to 90 degrees it only blows how air when the engine is under load. When at idle or coasting the temp slowly creeps to cold.
I thought it might be related to the battery dying so I pulled the HVAC/ECAS fuse and reinstalled hoping it would recalibrate, but no dice.
What's my next step?

Problem solved?

After some additional research on the subject I believe the issue may be a failing water pump. I am due for a coolant flush anyway and while I'm in there I will probably replace the water pump and thermostat. Does this make sense to anyone?
