This morning on my way downtown I got a check engine light and I haven't had any problems with my truck before. It's 10 years old and has less than 70K miles. I had a friend with a code reader check it and the code was P0449. We cleared the code and it hasn't returned. I've read in some places that it could mean a variety of things such as a loose gas cap to a faulty valve. I'm not car savvy by any means so I have no idea how serious the Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit is. Any help would be great!

UPDATE...I changed the gas cap and the purge valve as possible solutions. But neither was a fix. I figured the gas cap was a far reach but couldn't hurt. I've been told that my best bet is the canister.

I just sold my 2006 4cyl Colorado with the check lite on that was on 5 years ago when I bought it...Ran fine and they wanted 400 bucks to replace a valve under the intake manfd. My guess yours has the same issue,if it runs OK forget about it....GM emmissions systems are the worst for problems after about 50K miles....JMO...

The valve under the intake manfd is the purge valve if I'm not mistaken. $400 seems a little extreme. I spent $20 for a new one and me and a friend changed it in less than 5 minutes. That was after we jacked it and removed the left from tire and fender well. Real quick and easy. The truck runs in good condition, my only problem is that I'm military and am now required to have an emissions test on my vehicle every few years to be cleared to come on base. I went to rockauto.com and found the next part to change so I'll continue to update as I repair.
