Just had a few questions about an 06 Reg Cab short bed 4x4 5speed 62k on the clock. Went to a dealer today to check out this truck and liked what i saw but the dealer swapped out the v6 for the 5.3l to use as a snow plow truck. The swap was done when the truck was fairly new. Questions are can the v6 power train handle the v8. Its got an SES light on with 2 codes: P0053 and P0059. I know its got to do with the 02 sensors that might be bad or harnesses are bad. Does anyone know other causes of these codes and do you think its a big problem? The truck is a 5speed and go's pretty well but i think i was expecting more from the V8. Will the codes limit the power to the motor like limp mode or something. Last, what problems can i expect from the swap? This option wasn't available (5.3l V8 manual) as far as i know for an 06 Sierra so i'm just concerned about the truck in the future if i decide to buy it. Thanks for you opinions. I know i'm a noob but not new to wrenching. Not afraid to pull the motor, trans or rear if i have to but rather not. This is my current ride that id rather not use as my DD anymore. Thanks for your help.

if you are aggressive i would be worried about the tranny

the diffs will be 10 bolt... so your fine there. might have a higher gear ratio ??

3.73 or maybe a 3.93 ??

i would be worried about the swap ? was a GM harness used ? aftermarket ? what about the computers and engine? where did they come from ?
being a plow truck probably only does a couple hundred miles per year at best!

cheers

How does the conversion look. Is it professional and clean. Are any wires cut/spliced or taped off. Was the cooling system upgraded. Will the dealer fix the CEL code problems. With all of the trucks available unless you get a real deal/steal I would pass this up and look for what you want. Remember when you leave the lot you own it and the dealer would not provide you with any warranty.

Bottom line, do you want it?? No matter what you buy, your going to have to spend money on it to keep it running and looking 100%.

Good luck and please let us know if you bought it and how it's running for you .

Its been a while so i have decided not to buy it. It was professionally done and does look like all OEM harnesses were used but there were 2 O2 codes. I figured i would have problems down the road and didn't want the headache. Thanks for your responses.
