When I put my truck in reverse I get a heck of a grinding/vibration noise...

Feels like the rear end is gonna fall out.

Doesn't feel like the trans, any ideas?

U-joints? Carrier?

It's gonna be until after Christmas before I can get into a shop and just trying to prepare myself.

Thanks!

Start with the simple and check your U joints, The factory u joints were non serviceable and when they go dry. the needle bearings grind in opposite direction of motion of rotation of drive shaft when seized.

At worst you find Needle bearings in the pan, first gear and/or reverse may be noisy which means. Either a torrington bearing or a planetary bearing is on its way out. Trans will eventually die of a loud death.
