1984 6.2 Liter Questions/ Problems

My truck will go from 65mph to 35mph going up hill. I get a big black fog rolling out the back. Is this a sign that my injector has gone bad? Another problem I have is with my fuel filer. There is a plug on top of the fuel filter that keeps coming out and leaking fuel. Can I just buy a new plug for it? I am very Diesel ignorant, so any help would be great.

You need to get that fuel leak fixed as soon as you can, the lost of fuel pressure to your diesel engine will cause you to lose HP and with your engine being a 1984. Your going to have to add Diesel additives since the fuel now are Low Sulfur diesel as to back then which had more sulfur in the Diesel to keep the injectors and injector pump lubricated.

Also with the Diesel engine's, it's important that you replace the fuel filter more often then with gas engine. Good practice is to replace the fuel filter every time you service the engine when changing your engine oil and filter too.

I have fix the fuel filter leaking problem> I was hoping that by fixing the fuel leak that I would have a constant fuel pressure, but I still struggle going up hill. I will try the fuel additive to see if i can clean up the injectors and I will let you know what happens.

didn't make much difference driving up hill.
