I have been chasing a gerlim in my truck. It is a 1986 Jimmy full size. Just the other day i took the harness out of the egine compartment after i checked all fuses to get rid of the draw. Harness looked fine, no chaffed wires, i did have to replace a few connectors but the damage was minor.

I put it all together and I am still blowing the fusible link at the starter. I have ground at the wiring coming from the voltage regulator that goes to the charge indicator at the cluster. I know that these tend to ground out, but my cluster is diconnected, because I have been chasing this germlin. I have looked at the wires and connectors throughout the dash and see no obivous damage. i am assuming it is under the dash since i have check the engine compartment already.

The wiring diagram I have is not the easiest to read. Any information, even if just some diagrams, would be great.

Consensus here is that you have a problem with the starter , solenoid or both.

One test u can do - check voltage on the solenoid with the key off , u should have 12 Vs on one side and zero on the other . Voltage on both means its bleeding thru which would wreck havoc with the system.

And - don't feel alone , I'm trying to a kill " draw-down " gremlin too .

Thanks for the help! but the starter tested to be okay. I am not finding a drawl now but i do keep blowing the fusible link. Should i just wire the altenator straight to the battery post?

No ! Fuses are there for a reason , and to try and bypass one is courting disaster .
