My Jimmy sat for about 6 years, then recently, I replaced the fuel tank, sending unit, fuel filter,O2 sensor, radiator & the 3 window motors. Started it up and things looked pretty good...until I bought an OBD1&2 scanner ... Now I have Diagnostic Trouble Codes: 31-CAM sensor, 32-Electronic vacuum regulator valve error, 33-Map sensor-signal voltage is high during ignition idle (Note: Engine misfire or unstable idle may cause this code). 34-Map sensor- signal voltage is low during ignition on. 43- Electronic spark control-circuit problems. Or, Electronic Spark timing circuit-low voltage detected. 51- computer problem; faulty, wrong or incorrectly installed PROM circuit; or ECM/PCM failure. 52- Calibration Package Chip or ECM fault or oil temperture sensor fault/low engine temp (Corvette) not applicable here. System voltage high for a long period of time. 54- Fuel pump circuit fault or Mixture Control solenoid fault or Electronic Control Module fault/ EGR solenoid #2 failure(3.8L VIN1) 55- ECM fault or oxygen sensor circuit fault or EGR solenoid!!!!!! Is this really happening? It runs so good too! Where do I even begin to try & correct these codes? Oh, and all these codes are on the scanner without the Check Engine Light on! I'd love to restore my Jimmy back to health, I can replace stuff but tracking down problems is not my forte! Do I just start replacing sensors? Would they have gone bad while sitting in the driveway for 6 years? , I'm not sure where to begin to fix what ails her! Also not sure if I should continue or just junk her & get something else. I'd hate to do that! Any help at all would be very, very much appreciated!!

codes

Did you happen to clear the codes and see what came back ?

Yes. My scanner was unable to erase the DTc's, sighting using the Service Manual, which I only have what you can buy at Auto Zone, to find the procedure for erasing them. I also disconnected the negative battery cable for about an hour in hopes of resetting the computer but when I reconnected it and scanned it, all the DTC's were still there. If the computer were to need re-programming would I still be able to drive it, because it drives great although I need new shocks for a smoother ride, but it starts right up gauges work, and tranny shifts good too. Got it up to 50 mph yesterday, I almost forgot what its like to drive a V8! It was nice.

My main concern is would these codes prevent it from passing California smog test. Leading up to 6 years ago I never had a problem smogging it. But it has sat, and I'm wondering what happened during that time to alter it to the point where I have all these codes. Unless they were present then & weren't the type of codes to make it fail a smog test. I have read that I have to drive it a bit so the computer has time to "re-learn" and reset. But this is an '88, not sure if it has that ability like 1996 models & newer have.

codes

 Not sure about the relearning process but it's worth a try - one thing I have learned over the years is that a one bad sensor can give a bunch of unrelated codes, I was trouble shooting a chevy impalla the would every now and then suddenly die - reader gave a -tps -egr -map-ecm - maf and a few more but i dont remember what they were - after beating head aginst the wall for awhile it finally lead to a bad seloniod in the trans for the torque converter clutch, the one thing it never showed a code for.
