1995 Sierra 1500 engine light?

Hi guys, new to the forum here. I have a 95 halfton, with the 350 tbi and 242k on it, and my check engine light comes on rather randomly. It has the stupid glass packs on it, and was wondering if that was causing it. Its about 500 miles overdue for an oil change, maybe thats it. Any ideas?

when the light is on stop at an auto parts store and have them read the codes
check engine light also comes on for smog control problems
have you ever replaced the gas cap, check and clean the gas cap seal
charcoal canister is another part that goes bad over time, '95 so it does have some vacuum lines check them not just look but with the engine running (be careful) push, pull, twist, bend then, is there a change in the engine speed or did the light come on
glass packs will not cause the problem unless the Cats have been removed
oil change time will if the oil pressure goes to zero for a certain amount of time
