I have a '96 GMC Sonoma 4x4, 4.3 engine, Automatic transmission with a strange problem. On the first take off, it does great until I get to the first stop light , then the problem starts. The vehicle jerks like it's starving for gas until you get going appx. 30 mph., then it smoothes out and it's fine (until the next stop light).

BUT, If I manually shift starting off in 1st gear, then on up, it never misses a beat. We tried replacing the transmission with one from the salvage yard and got exactly the same problem afterwards. Anyone else have this type of experience with their Sonoma? Any solutions? Thanks.

Check your wire harness to your transmission, make sure there all good and no shorts in the wire. It sounds like if i understand to what you are saying, the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) always locked, which the TCC apply solenoid circuit shorted to ground,

Good luck and keep us posted, hope its not a bad TCM.
