I have a 1996 Jimmy 4x4, 4 door, 4.3 vortex. I just put it back on the road last week. When I was driving it started to loose power at 2000 rpms, I pulled off the road put it in park and it would not rev over 2000 rpms, shut the it off started right back up & it would rev to 3-4-5000 rpms. drove along & 5 minuted later it did the same thing would not rev over 2000rpms as I was driving & at idle. I replaced the cat (it was loose inside). Fuel pressure is 55 -60 psi @ idle, egr ok, fuel filter replaced. Fuel pump was replaced 4 yrs ago & then I parked the car for 3 yrs. The pump seems to be unusually loud, I hear it running above the motor. I am puzzeled why when it looses power & I shut it off & start right back up it will rev above 2,3,4 5000 rpms. I am very agitated. it also brought up bank 1 & bank 2 O2 sensors previously at the same time. Any help would be REALLY appreciated. Thank You

Start with the simple and clean your MAF and replace your MAP sensor. Since your doing that, also clean your throttle body. Start with that and keep us posted, at worst your going to have to get the injectors cleaned professionally.

Good luck and keep us posted.;)

Ttried your advice and still have the same problem. What next should I try?

I had a similar issue on an old van we used to have.

Turns out, pieces of the catalytic Converter had been blown into the muffler when it broke up, blocking the muffler outflow....

Drop your exhaust at the cat and drive it around as a test. It's gonna be loud, but if the blockage is in the muffler, this test will confirm it!

Good luck!
