hi...

i recently bought a 1997 jimmy for my daughter. it came with one key, which will start the vehicle and open all the doors except the rear tailgate lock (the key will go in 3/4 of the way, but wont turn the lock, and i dont want to force it).

does the rear tailgate use a separate key? or is the cylinder bad? can the cylinder be replaced, or does the whole lock mechanism need replaced?

i tried cleaning it with a vacuum, compressed air and graphite to no avail

thanks for your help

Cylinder is bad and you can get a new cylinder for it, just have the dealer or lock smith. Where ever you get the cylinder, and have them match the cylinder to your keys.

Good luck and keep us posted, we all are glad to help.;)
