Hey guys, got a problem that I can't quite figure out. I have a 97 Jimmy slt 4x4 that I bought for $200. When I bought it it wouldn't shift past 2nd gear. I changed the shift solenoids filter, all that. Finally got it to shift into 3rd, but no overdrive. RPMs would stay between 3000 &3500. Found another transmission and torque converter. Installed them. During the install I noticed I had some vacuum lines that were rotted in two. Changed them all except the one from the transfer case to the actuator. After install, it driver great. No problems what soever. For a few days at least. Last night I was driving it and and when I got up to 60 it revved up again and started doing the exact same thing that the old transmission did. any ideas would be great thanks.

Seems to me that it is something that I'm missing. I've searched and searched online for someone that has had the same problem and haven't found a single one that it's exactly the same. What are the odds that this other transmission did the exact same thing, after it worked just fine for about 70 miles. Makes me think there's something else that's causing this.

Good chance that your wire harness or connection pins are bad at the transmission or TCM. Ill start with checking at the Transmission side first for bad wire and connections.

Visited with a mechanic at a transmission shop and he said it sounds like the high side of the transmission is fried. He said that a seal in the transfer case will go bad causing the fluids to drain to the transfer case. He said to pull the plug on it and see if it pours out. It shouldn't have that much fluid in it. I checked it and there was not that much fluid back there. I well check the harness and see if I have any bad connections or wires. Just kind of threw me for a loop because it ran fine for about 70 miles.

last post by molson was true, your transmission is controlled by the pcm and if theres a fault wire somewhere in the harness then the signal for it to shift isnt going to reach the pcm, i would do a ground sweep on the car grounds are a number one cause to allot of failures in wiring harness or wiring in general, a scan tool is great help but wont show u were faults are but is good to check gear shifting
