1997 gmc Sierra 7.4ltr

My friend has a 1997 gmc sierra 3500 dually with a 7.4ltr engine. Put in a new distributor and still having the same problem . When driving it gets up to 20mph and stutters and falls on its face. I've been told it has to do with the cam wearing out. If anyone has any info I would be greatly appreciated

You probably have a flat cam lobe that's causing this...chev had problems with this in older models....
