Hi, after countless hours searching the web for answers I came across this forum. I have owned my 97 Sierra 1500 for about a year now. I haven't had a problem out of it until now. I let a family member use it for a month while in her care it broke down on the highway. Power and gauges was still on when the engine just died. I checked the starter, alternator, battery and fuses. I am just stomped now. When I turn the key the lights and gauges come on and the fuel pump to. The starter don't try to turn at all I had it tested and they said it was fine. I took a wrench and turned the engine to make sure it wasn't locked up thank god it wasn't !!! Now im just stumped I would loved to hear what u guys think.

Thanks
Brandon

is there a starter relay? I don't remember if my 98 had one
start with the simple things check all the fuses, don't just put an ohm meter to them,
Remove them and look.
relays-
the relays have the schamatic embossed on the side of them, aint sure but I know more than one of the same relay on my truck try swapping them n see if that helps
keep us posted with results

It was running when it just died. I will check the relays

if it was running a relay wont cause it to die it only uses the relay during starting
but we got to get it turning over before we can diagnose any other problems
my truck died a couple times on me, the wire plug at the distributer had come loose
