Hi,i bought a 99 4dr 2wd jimmy last month and havent droven it since i dont know how to read the tansmission fluid stick,it's wierd.cold at bottom and hot at top,where should the fluid be?i checked it cold and it shows good and when i warm it up it shows barely anything touching the stick.my brother towed it from where he lives.he he changed the tranny fluid and added some slick 50.i drove it a few times untill i checked the tranny fluid and dont know what im doing wrong.i know theres fluid in there but why does it dissapear when it warms up?no leaks either.

You check automatic transmission fluid with the vehicle running and up to operating temperature. Vehicle must be on level ground, running and in park.
I checked it that way so i dont understand.maybe i need to drive it for awhile before checking.
I have a 95 that has a similar issue. I check it warmed up and level and it appears that I have no fluid. I put the 3foot long stick back in and check again and it shows too much. Repeat and it goes back and forth no fluid, fluid, etc. I don't get it.
i have the same issue. on my 1996 v6. it would only shift into reverse when warmed up and was slow going into first. you can check it cold and it is full. you can check it hot and its low. i put 2 qts fluid in it 2 weeks ago and it shifted ok for awhile. yesterday, outdoor temps in the teens, it wouldnt go into reverse. i drove it 25 miles, parked it, left it running, in park, couldnt see a drop on the stick. i put 3.5 qts more in there over about a 15 minute period until the level was finally in the cross hatches on the stick. i shut it off and checked it the next morming before startup and the level was 2 inches above the cross hatches (hot mark). i started it and it shifted into reverse a little slow but it did go.

The only thing to add is that the tranny should be at operating temp. A half hour drive is sufficient where I live. You gotta drive it.
