I am having trouble with my 2000 GMC Jimmy. The meter is senseing the engine is overheating. Here is the thing. I took it to the mechanic, he replaced the thermostat, flushed the radiator, and replaced the radiator. Now he is telling me the waterpump may need to be replaced. The radiator I got from a junk yard, and it looked almost new. The container which holds the anifreeze in my car is filthy. This mechanic looked at the car again, and he says now it needs a water pump. I dont know whats up with the car? Could some one tell me whats going on?? so I dont have to spend more money to find out the censor is blown.

id get a 2nd opinion just incase but MOST LIKELY its your water pump.

pressure test your radiator cap. it is the reason why like 94% of cars are in the junk yard due to overheating. Also have him change out the water pump, if the fluid gets really dirty even thought you have done a flush, it may be that the pump isnt working correctly. Make Sure To Check The Radiator CAP!!!

I would suggest a second opinion - water pumps are made to last for many more that 10 years, unless you live in a very cold climate.

More than likely it is the water pump. The water pump gets wore out and once that happens the antifreeze is not flowing like it should. If the radiator is dirty try flushing it out again by buying a kit instruction say everything you need to know just ask someone in a auto store where there at and how you use them just in case. But I wanna say it is your water pump or dirty radiator. If the guage is moving it is working but could possibly be wrong but more than likely no. If this is a mechanic you usually go to he shouldn't be lieing but if he isn't it could be possible he's lieing.
