Hello All,

I have a 2000 SLS Sonoma, 4.3L V6, 4x4, 87K miles... the truck seems to run hot and the fan engages about 50% of the time when I'm running the AC.

When I tow a SMALL pop-up trailer I can not use the AC or I'm overheating quite often during my trip. Towing without AC is doable but still requires me to keep an eye on the gauge!

I've flushed cooling system, changed thermostat, installed a heavy duty fan blade/clutch assembly, and a high output water pump... still have the same issues.

Does anyone else tow a trailer and have a similar experience? What did you do?

Is it advisable to convert to an electric cooling fan system? Does that really help? I know I'll have more hp available for towing, but does it help with overheating?

Thanks.

Jim

Frist check and make sure your gage is not lieing to you. If it's working correctly then Check the radiator.. Get the truck warmed up and feel the radiator with your hand. (be careful hot) see if there is a coner or middle of the radiator that is cooler than the rest. If it is replace it.

Also try useing a garden hose on the radiator when running the ac and see if that cools it down.

Sounds like a drity radiator to me.
