...sparkplug. I did check the gap.? 2000 GMC Canyon pickup engine light came on and skips after I changed the spark plugs. I did check the gap to make sure it was set at 42. Does anyone know if I missed something?

1. Check to make sure all the spark plug wires are firing properly.

2. Make sure you didn't mix the spark plug wires up.

Double check the spark plug wires and make sure they are in the correct spark plug socket or distributor cap slots. The engine skips when the wires are NOT put in incorrectly. Make sure all the tips of the wires are fastened securely. On very rare occasions, one new spark plug may be defective.

Recheck your firing order and make sure that your spark plug wires are all set in properly to your spark plugs. Inspect your wires too and look for any damages that may have occurred when removing them from the old spark plugs. Replace any wires or all of them if you suspect any damages and have the Canyon scanned for the DTC codes to help you address the issues your engine has.
