2000 gmc jimmy (Automatic 4x4) cannot manually switch 4 wheel drive?

I've got a 2000 GMC Jimmy Envoy Edition. SLE 4x4.
I've got the push button 4x4 with the automatic 4x4 option. that light is ALWAYS on. but i cannot manually switch it into 2 wheel drive, or 4 hi or low.. those buttons are all dead, and i don't think that the Automatic 4x4 is actually putting it into 4 wheel drive. i live in michigan and it's been icy recently, it would be nice to have reliable 4x4.
Any help as to whats wrong with it would be much appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Start with checking your fuse for your 4wd system, and read this post. Good luck and keep us posted.
