2000 GMC Jimmy Erratic Fuel Gauge

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4 4.3L V6 and I just started having Fuel gauge issues. I know that it must be an electrical problem because when the car is parked on level ground and in the on position the gauge is still behaving erratically.

Once I start driving it a bit the needle tends to stay in one spot, but in the wrong position.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some trouble shooting tips on where the problem might be.

Had the same problem with my 2000 Jimmy. It was the level sendor unit that was gone. Unfortunately the level sendor is part of the fuel pump and in order to repair it you have to change the fuel pump unit.
