My van has had this problem for a couple years now. Runs great most of time, but not in hot, humid weather, stop & go (like bumper to bumper traffic), or up long hills. When it heats up, engine chugs (stumbles) then shuts off. Once it has cooled down (1/2 hr or so), it will start right up. Replaced engine temp sensor to no avail. I know the temp gauge is off - it has always appeared to run cool, but normal running temp (on gauge) is at about 1/8 from fitst mark (100). If gauge reaches 1/4 mark, it will shut off. Clearly the gauge is off, but even when it's close to shut off, the engine isn't really overheating. Spent a week at dealers, they did everythingthey could think of (except subject it to type of situation that causes it) and fiound nothing. I am thinking that the VCM might be screwy and mis-interpreting temp sensor signal. Does not produce a code when it does this, though it sometimes flashes the "CHECK GAUGES" light before cutting out.
I've seen other posts about this, but it doesn't seem like any replies ever are posted. I know other GM owners taht have had similar problems.
Any ideas?
