2000 Sierra lifter noise

I bought a 2000 GMC Sierra, new 10 years ago and just started to have lifter noise. The original motor has 323,000 miles on it and would love to keep it. Is the noise a sign of bad things to come? Thank you.

The engine could have oil flow issues from carbon build up in your engine's oil journals. Try adding a liter of Marvel Mystery oil in to your crank case and then 1/2 liter of Marvel Mystery Oil to your next oil change.

The Marvel Mystery oil will dissolve the carbon though out your internal engine components. Make sure you keep an eye on your engine oil level while the Marvel Mystery oil is in with your engine oil.

If your luck the lifter noise was the caused of carbon restricting the oil flow into the lifters. The other thing that would cause your lifters to be noisy would be a worn cam shaft. Start with the simple and add a liter of Marvel Mystery Oil which can be found at Auto Zone.

Never used it before, so if I add it to the crank, do I have to drain a quart of oil to add a quart of MM, or do I add it at the next oil change? Thank you.

Just add it to the oil when ever you get a chance and you can judge from the dip stick on how much you can add without draining any oil. If you go over the full mark, that's still ok and just keep an eye on the oil level. The Marvel Mystery Oil is much thinner so it tends to burn it self off and clean the carbon throughout your engine oil passageways.

I my self still uses it 500 miles before my next oil change to keep my engine clean internally. As mentioned, you my get lucky if your lifters are gummed up with carbon and not getting enough oil through them which the Mystery Oil can resolve. At worst, your lifters are far to gone and the Cam Shaft is worn. But i got a feeling that after you add the Marvel mystery oil, the lifter noise should be better and soon gone.

Thanks Molson. As you can tell from the miles, the engine has been well maintained. The lifter noise seems to come from one cylinder. Did an oil change this morn with the MMO. Hopes it works. Again thanks.
