I just bought a used 2001 Jimmy (4wd rear disks) and after fixing a series of minor issues including the ABS sensor problem I thought it was in pretty good shape.
A couple days ago my wife drove to the store and when she returned she mentioned the brake pedal was very soft. I had just driven it before this so I calmly explained to her she was probably crazy...she loudly disagreed.
When I went out to the Jimmy the first thing I noticed was a large and growing puddle of brake fluid half way back on the drivers side.. I then uttered my standard mantra for occasions of this sort..."Oh s**t".
Following the drips I found the brake line(s) on top of the frame rail. Feeling around up there I could feel 4 lines!. I think it is the outside line that is leaking, and I assume with ABS that two of the lines could be to the left and right rear brakes, but what are the other two? Does anyone have a diagram of the brake line routing?
Feeling my way up the frame rail it only appears one of the lines goes in the general direction of the ABS unit and the other 3 wander off invisibly.
I am retired living on SS and a pension (remember those?) so having this fixed professionally would require me to knock off a 7-11 first. Not fun at my age.
Does anyone have any sage advice on whether those are 1 brake and 3 mystery lines, 2 brake 2 myst. or any other combination?.
I have replaced brake lines before, on a Grand Caravan, so I have the benders and double-flare tools. But at least I could see the lines on the Caravan...
Thanks in advance,
Tony
