Ok so I have had a check engine light on for sometime now and put a code reader on it today and they are as follows..

p0449- evap emission system vent control circuit intermittent

p0440 evap emissions system

p0430 catalyst system efficiency below threshold

Anyone have any idea what these mean??

evap emission problem could be your gas cap
clean the filler neck and the seal on the gas cap

98Trck is right. I've had an evaporative OBD code appear twice due to a gas cap that wasn't sealing.

Thanks I will try this and see how it does. I know the few days it was real cold in Ohio it went out for a few days then came back on.

Well cleaned the cap and inside the screw area of the fill and nothing light is still on guess next would be to replace the sensor itself.

go the less expensive way first
if there is any doubt with the old gas cap replace it
check the charcoal canister is it clean no obstructions the canister has to breath
it has a little air filter on it is it clean
check all the rubber lines in the system
is your truck flex fuel?
do you have E85 fuel in your area? and have you used it?

No flex fuel in my truck, mo E85 fuel around that I know of and haven't used any. I will check the gas cap and see what it looks like. The cap was replaced within the last 2 years could it still malfunction?

you said you have 'check engine light for some time now' did it start any time close to when you replaced the cap?
is it good quality cap?

Will the bad solenoid mess with the catalytic converter??

yes if the charcoal canister is malfunctioning

It's a gas cap from Walmart so quality is doubtful. I think it was 6 months to a year after I replaced the cap I believe but not sure.

if I had questions about the quality of the gas cap, I'd get an OE one from the dealer. it can't be more than $10 more for the right one.
