Hey Guys,

So I have a 2001 Jimmy SLS bought it used a last summer. I noticed over the winter that my 4wd isn't working. I haven't really looked at it yet. I just know that when I try to activate it there are no indication lights that come on and it stays in 2wd. Where should I start my trouble shooting at?

Thanks guys.

Star with the fuses and vacuum lines. Do you have the 3 button or 4 button 4wd on the dash???

You should be able to hear the encoder motor working under the Jimmy when trying to shift it in to 4wd. If you don't hear it making any noise, then look to see if the fuse has gone bad for the 4wd. If the fuse is good, then it could be the connection at he TCCM which is located behind the passenger side kicker panel. The connections have been know to get corroded which cause the 4wd to activate.

Other areas to cause issues is the vacuum switch on the firewall just above the distributor. This is only if you have the 4 button 4wd switch with Auto mode. The other common problem is the front axle actuator going bad which is located under the battery, inspect that to see if its working when the 4wd is turned on.

At best, the switch on the dash may have gone bad and thats al you may have to replace or clean up the terminals.

Start with these simple things to inspect and post back. ;)

Thanks Moslon02536,

Luckily it was just a blown fuse. I did notice the previous owner had a 15amp fuse even though it only calls for a 10amp. Not sure if they had problems with it blowing or they only had a 15amp to replace the original 10amp. I'll drive it for a while and see what happens.

I have also been toying with the idea of doing a 3in lift. But I would like to switch out the leaf springs rather then just a bracket lift kit. I'll post another thread for that later maybe.
