Is it possible to get a real hot rod sound from a Vortec 4.3? (RE: 2WD, Ext Cab w/3rd Door, custom body). I'm used to V8s on my other vehicles, but I really would like to improve the sound over oem. However, sooooo many folks on the road have just LOUD exhaust 6-cylinder cars, usually, that sound like they should stay home. Ya know? I don't want to sound that way. The guy who customized mine for me (I just got it), had a Flowmaster and put on it, but took it right back off. Said it sounded awful. I trust his judgment. He thinks like I do. All exhausts are not created equal. Your comments and advice would be appreciated so I don't waste money on something that'll just be embarrassing.

I have a magnaflow single in dual out cat back on mine. Put it on myself. Magnaflow part Number: 15796
Sounds G0000000D!!
Has a deep mellow tone at idle and doesn't rap out like a rice rocket. (those little japanese cars that are loud)

This is similar to my truck, mine is 2003 sonoma, and what it sounds like.

Im running a high flow Catalytic converter from http://www.magnaflow.com/ in to a http://www.dynomax.com/ and its a 2.5 single exhaust. Seams to run deeper like a V8 with the hight flow Catalytic converter.

Hope this helps

I have a Dynomax Ultraflow welded cat back system. Its louder than stock and has a nice sound. Not obnoxious at all, but it doesn't sound like a V8.

Thank you for the comments. I really appreciate it. Will research on! A good exhaust costs a lot of change, and I don't want to be disappointed. All your recommendations are good ones!
