Was driving my Denali on a local road when it just started to die. Lucky to pull over before the engine stopped. Tried to restart the engine many times and it would just kick over for a second or so then stop. AAA came out to jump start, but still same problem. They towed it to our house. Battery was totally dead at this point. Would not hold a charge. Went out and put new battery in, but same thing as before. It would turn over for a second or 2 and stop. Put a OBD II Code Reader on it but no codes nor check engine or other warning lights. It just won't start. Help. Larry

This evening sprayed the throttle body with a lot of cleaner. It was quite dirty. Started engine again and it ran a little longer before it died. If I push down on the gas right after it started it ran a little longer but always died. So is this a fuel problem then vs. electrical? I also bought a fuel filter. Will put this on tomorrow.

sounds like a possible bad fuel pump. sounds like the same thing that happened to my brother's 02 Denali.

try hitting gas tank with hammer while someone trys to start it.

lol, that's what i did when i met my brother on the side of the road. cracnked up everytime 7 smacked it. then it would run for a little then stall out again.

very true. cheapest solution would be to try cleaning the MAF to see if that helps at all. they make a spray cleaner, kind of like brake clean.

why would you clean the mass air flow sensor when!!!!!! tk does not start unless you hit the gas tank!!!!!!!

Come on people we are here to help not just tell people to do thinks.

the original poster did not hit the gas tank. he says he tried a throttle body cleaner & it started, but then dies. i still think it's the fuel pump, but if he wants to try cleaning the MAF, i'm sure it can't hurt anything.

I was just basing my answer as one of the possibilities of what the OP original symptoms were. run and die after a short time. Tha MAS does do the same thing.

Almost the same problem with my 2000 GMC Yukon. it will turn over but will not crank, I have seen where it is a wire that goes into the ignition switch that can come loose and sets off the security pass lock on the vehicle. I have seen someone insert a little plastic shim into the wire area and hold it from coming loose. I am going to try this before I start taking parts off of the truck. If not the problem then going to the fuel pressure regulator.
