Just bought an 02 1500 van with the 5.0 ltr. 305. I would like to know what the normal operating temperature should be for the engine or how I can find out.

I bought the Haynes manual, but I haven't found it in there. I just keep seeing, if the temp is too high or too low, but not what it should be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

185 on the low side in the winter time and no more the 210 in the summer time with the a/c running and in stopped traffic. Also note that the temp gauge on your dash is not accurate and the stepper motors ball parks the actual temperature of the engine. Its just there to ad some comfort to the drivers mind to how the engine temperature it like.

Good luck and keep us posted and note the the dex-cool coolant should be replaced every 5 years or less and best to use radiator flush before servicing the cooling system.

Old dex-cool will crystallize in the water ways causing flow issues. So best to use radiator flush and replace with 50/50 mix of dex-cool and water.;)

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for. It's good to know that so far everything has checked out. I think I got a great deal.

Thanks again.
