2004 six disk changer sierra

the six disk cd changer failed. The darn thing is hooked to the steering, the onstar and replacement of the stero may require special harnesses. anyone ever take this stereo appart and successfully rebuilt it?
It's problem is only that it wont play, eject or receive cd's. could just be dirty, I'll wait to here advice before I dissasemble it...

Common for the CD system to lose it's program and will need to be rebooted, the bad news it that your system is mated to your PCM with the vin number so you'll need to take it to the dealer and have them reboot it with a Tech2 scanner.
