I need help! I have a 2005 GMC Envoy that was idling rough and engine light on. The problem was diagnosed as a cylinder misfire (cylinder 1). That was replaced. About a week later the car intermittently would stall when put into gear, but would start again after letting it rest for a few minutes. They replaced the battery and water pump (loud noise up front). Two days later it started doing the same thing, but got progressively worse. It would shake vigorously when in idle and ended up dying when idled at stop lights or in park. They replaced a solenoid. I've had it back for 3 days and it has again stalled on me 3 times. In all instances I have been driving for about 30 min, then I stop somewhere and when I get back in the car and put into gear, it stalls. After $3,000 I'm at my wits end with this. Any help would be appreciated.

Stalling is most likely to be a dirty throttle body, especially if you're over 30K miles. Cheap and quick process. Try that first, then see if it does it again.;)

Cleaning the Throttle body fixes most members right up. If that fails, then try removing the Power Steering pump and getting the cam position actuator out and cleaning its screens. Delayed oil changes that allow sludge buildup on the screens seems to be the #2 most likely cause of erratic idle. Other causes that show up as low compression in one cylinder are lower down the list.

Misfires from plug or coils or wiring issues tend to throw SES codes and are not as mysterious as erratic idle from these top three causes. Good luck and keep us posted. :D
