2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Radio Question

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab with the original CD/Stereo installed. My Reception on the radio is really bad. I checked the Antenna and it is connected. I assume the FM receiver has gone bad. In addition I have a CD stuck in the CD player.

QUESTION: Can i install an after market CD/Stereo and still use the Steering wheel controls without any additional equipment? Or do I need to purchase an adapter box for the stereo? I have installed Car stereos in the past but never with Steering wheel controls. Suggestions on stereo models are also welcome.

Hi i have a 2005 and i put kenwood aftermarket in it and u well not be able to use your steering wheel controls
 
I have a pioneer and can use the steering wheel controls. I could even of used the onstar if i wanted to. I do belive there was an extra module that had to be installed.
 
there is actually a seperate wiring harness for you steering wheel controls, it cost like 50 bucks, but you have to search for it online, i aint a hundred percent sure on the technical name for it but i have an aftermarket installed in my 2004 Infiniti G35 and bought the wiring harness for my steering wheel controls and everything works fine, and yes they do have the wiring harness for all vehicles just look around.
