hey guys, i have a 2006 GMC sierra 4X4 with 84,000 miles, it has developed a slight noise in the right cylinder head and is a little down on power as well, i run mobil -1 full synthetic and a napa gold filter changer every 5000 miles faithfully and i have owned it since new.. i have a friend that is a gm service tech here in town so i drove it over to him and he advised without tearing it down he would bet it has a seized roller on a lifter and that it has wiped out the camshaft and may have hurt a valve as well... this is where my stomach starts churning.. he claims to tear it down as far as the camshaft and heads the labor would be damn near as much as replacing the long block which is around $3700 plus the labor est. @ $ 2000.00.. plus all the related fluids and such prolly a few hundred more.. i guessing to be rolling again for about $ 6000. I feel this is a issue that GM should look into as i have heard now of many other people with the same type of problem and with the mileage on this engine i feel it is very premature.. can any of you offer up any help regarding this issue.. thanks in advance.. big johnson:confused:

Start with the simple and add a quart of http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/ to your engine oil and hope it will free up your roller rocker. Not sure how bad your engine noise is from your right bank, but this wont hurt.

Leave the marvel mystery oil in there for a week then change your engine oil and filter. Use http://www.shell.com/rotella/products/tpl-pro.html, it should help you regain your engine power and add some more life to your engine.

Just went through exact same thing!

I just got mine put back together. 2007 Sierra with 4.8 and 78,000 miles. If you haven't done so already do not take it to the dealer as you can do this yourself. Hear me out as I did my own and it only cost me about three hundred dollars. These trucks although flawed are the easiest to work on, plenty of room in the engine compartment and so on. I too had a seized lifter and from what I could see with the camera the cam looked okay. I only replaced one lifter that was obviously bad just to get it going but since finding it's so easy to work on I'm planning to do all lifters, cam and the like when I get my tax refund. You can even change the cam without pulling the heads, how cool is that? Keep us posted please, Bill
