I change my oil every 7,500 miles. Had it changed two weeks ago. While driving the other night down the interstate the oil pressure gauge began to fluctuate severely. 0 to 40, then back to 0 while the check engine light was flashing on and off. I pulled over and parked. Revved the engine but the oil pressure barely increased. Plus I could hear the engine running a little louder. It started clicking. Then the pressure got better. I got back on the highway and after 15 or so miles it started again. I started my truck this morning and the engine was noisy again and the oil pressure gauge was at zero, with an alarm going off. I revved the motor a little but it didn't help. I have 163,000 miles on the truck. The oil is full and clean. Is this the oil pump? Maybe a pickup screen stopped up? Could it be a collapsed oil filter? I plan on changing the oil filter the evening to see if it corrects the problem. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

oil guage problems

would be hard to diagnose without doing some checks but there was a problem with the gauges in the dash cluster acting like that, the cure was to replace the cluster or find a good tv repair shop and get them to solder the socket pins and the high wattage resistors on the circuit board, there are video's on the internet dealing with this problem.
Looks like all these electronics on all brands just don't last, if I buy another vehicle it will be the one with as close to no electronics that I can find.

my 08 did this once and I just ignored it as an electric problem ...bad idea shortly after oil pump "went" by the time I pulled over it was toast . 230000km
