2008 5.3L oil pump problems

I'm coming up on owning my sierra for 2 years. I've already replaced one oil pump (23,000mi) and i think its in the process of burning up another one at (38,000mi). I have the iron block active fuel management 5.3L. I am running delco filters with 5w-30 synthetic. Is it just me or is anyone else having oil pump problems?

I'm thinking maybe the bypass valve spring went bad or the piston is sticking. First thing to do is put a manual oil pressure gauge on the engine, to do that you pull the oil pressure sending unit out. That way you can narrow it down to a electrical or mechanical problem and make a better decision.

It's very near impossible for the pump bypass to stick or the filter bypass to stick also. Electrical gauges are not the most reliable, so use a manual oil pressure gauge to get a correct reading. Access is very tight where the oil sender is, Installing a gauge hose back there isn't going to be easy but neccesary. It could be wiring from the sensor to the pcm, wiring from the pcm to the cluster, or the cluster itself. But hopefully you can eliminate the mechanical part since that would be the most expensive, plus then you know its drivable.

Its still under warranty luckily, so i am letting the dealer do the work. Its just such an inconvenience because I use it for my landscaping business on top of commuting to my regular job. Thanks for the troubleshooting tip though!
