I am appalled by GMC and what I have found out in the last week. On Friday, my 2008 GMC Acadia with 48,XXX miles on it, basically just stopped working on a busy bridge in the middle of traffic on my way to work. I had to be towed and it's the transmission. My 48,XXX mile car that gets regularly serviced should have ZERO transmission issues.
I have had the car for over 5 years, so of course, my warranty doesn't cover it. The dealership is at least working with me and has agreed to pay half - my car is still there getting fixed. HOWEVER, I shouldn't have to pay anything. This is apparently an issue that is well-known in 2007-2009 Acadias. I am appalled that GMC has done nothing about this issue and has not had recalls on the transmissions. It's ridiculous and it's dangerous. I've read of people's transmissions going out in the middle of the interstate! Are you going to pay for the wrecks that are going to be caused by your lack of doing anything about this issue? You've got your dealerships trained to act like this isn't an incredibly common thing.
I have loved GMC in the past, but can honestly say, I will never buy from you again. Something needs to be done about this, immediately. I really can't believe there hasn't been a class-action lawsuit filed against you yet.

Still without a car

Just an update....My car has now been at the dealership for what will be a week at the end of today. I haven't heard anything from the dealership in two days. They did call me back on Tuesday to say that instead of replacing the transmission like they originally said they were going to do, that since GMC is paying for half - they're just going to repair it instead of replace it. WHY IS THIS GMC'S DECISION WHEN IT'S MY CAR AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE ALLOWING PEOPLE TO DRIVE AROUND IN CARS THAT THEY KNOW HAVE BAD TRANSMISSIONS IN THEM?! I AM ALSO PAYING HALF OF THE COST!!!

GMC and Gwatney Buick GMC in Sherwood, AR has really disappointed and angered me. I feel it is my duty to let others know what happened to me, what has happened to others, and what is continuing to happen because GMC won't take responsibility, per the usual. I guess new officials haven't really changed anything.... So, I will be spreading this like wild fire. I will be leaving reviews everywhere that I can. I will spread this on Facebook, on Twitter, by word of mouth. I don't want anyone else making the costly decision of buying cars from an organization that doesn't take pride in its work or correct dangerous situations that they are aware of, but too cheap to recall.

At what point will GMC be forced to recall the transmissions on their 2008 Acadia's? We were told on Tuesday our 2008 GMC Acadia will need a new transmission due to wave plate failure. The 5 year extended warranty we bought, when we purchased the car used in 2011 was up a few thousand miles ago...bummer for us. We were quoted around $4600 at the dealership (not where we purchased) for a new transmission. It sure would be great if GMC could recognize the problems with this model!
