Ive searched and cant find anything so Im putting the question out to you all.
My 2008 sierra has now gone thru 2 pair of low beam head lamps in the past 3 years.
At 55 years old, I have had many cars and trucks, and NEVER to my recollection have I ever had to change a single bulb until this truck came along.
What is up with these trucks that headlights dont last??
When it happened the first time I made phone calls to several shops to get an estimate for replacing them and about crapped my pants. Not only at the cost estimate but (after many internet searches and you tube videos) the amount of work that it supposely takes to change them.

Needles to say that almost caused me to sell the dam thing, but instead I desided to try and do it myself. What I found out, is that it takes NOWHERE NEAR the time the dealer and other shops quoted me. I do think the highbeam lamps will prove to me more of a challenge, but the low beams are in fact very easy to change.
Still.....I cant help but think there is a problem that somehow causes the lamps to burn out in such a short amount of time.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a brand of buld that lasts longer?
Stock bulbs burnt out at about 1 year old. Replaced them with Sulvania Ultras, and those just burnt out 3 months ago (left one 3 months ago, right side last night) Now we went with sulvania regular bulbs and dont know how long they will last.

I must say if this is the extent of my problems, I will be alright with it. I know GM trucks have had odd electrical issues for the past 10 years, so I will take a head light problem over some of the others Ive seen, but I would hope there is a lamp out there that can last somewhat longer then a year or 2.

Light

I have an 08 also left side lamp went out in 2011 and just replaced the right side. I have about 75k on the truck, only owner and don't turn the light off so they are always on. I would prefer they only come on when needed. This would extend the life.

Was there not a recall for the headlamps for that year of vehicle?? I would call your dealer and check into it.

I don't know if you have done this or not. So please take it with a grain of salt. When replacing the headlights, do not touch the glass portion of the bulb. If you do clean them off with alcohol to remove any contaminates from it. If you don't do this supposedly, it will reduce the life of the bulb. I just replaced them on my '03, due to one beoing burnt out.

Searching for threads on this I came across this one. My 2013 goes through a set a year. This time both went at the same time. Go figure I changed them both at the same time. Now windshield washer not working. Backup camera coming on with brakes and or windshield washer. I hate this truck and will never buy another GMC product.
