2008 Sierra steering wheel play

Have 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 4wd EXT, has developed steering wheel play
There is about 1/2 to 1" or play left or right before hits stops for turning
Been to dealer 3 times, they finally changed steering rack, no change, any ideas , thanks tomm
