I just hand washed my truck yesterday (as I always do) and noticed a lot of the paint on the rear wheel well lips is peeling off. One section is almost out to the flat surface of the box. If you run your hand along the edge, the paint just flakes off. I mentioned this to the GM dealership last year when it had started to make them aware and they said it was from stone chips. I'm not buying this excuse because the metal underneath is very clean, no rust. It looks like poor bond between the paint and the metal to me. If I let this go any further, the complete box side will need to be painted, not just the lips. Now that it's significant, I will contact my dealership again and see if they're willing to help me out. The truck has GM inner fender liners and is undercoated religiously. There is only 47000 kms on it. Has anyone else had this issue and what was the result?
I've been a GM/Chevy man all my life and currently own 5 and keep them all in pristine condition. My wife will be in the market for a new a car this year. General Motors reaction to this issue will certainly determine our future purchases.
