I purchased my 2011 3500 HD Denali Dually new. Before I got home from the dealership it threw a code that the DEF Fluid was bad. I should have just taken it back for a refund right then.

What has followed has been a nightmare. Many trips to the dealer for DEF warning. The system shut the speed down on me on a trip from Indiana to NJ on a Sunday night with nowhere to take the truck. Almost got killed 3 times by being rammed by a Semi running up a hill on the PA turnpike because I was going 5 MPH and they had picked up speed coming down the hill to make a run up the next one. Very dangerous and about the most stupid Idea big business and Govt. has ever had. I hope if anyone ever gets hurt or Killed by this speed reduction they sue GM's Ass's off.

Finally get it to dealer who claims I am going to have to put out $2,200 for an exhaust filter because the truck is now 1,500 miles out of warranty. After some push back they tell me it is only a sensor for about $300. which I begrudgingly paid because they said it was before the Cat so it was not covered on the Federal Exhaust Warranty. 3 days letter I get a letter from GM saying these sensors are bad and if I paid for repair they would reimburse me. Dealer refuses to give me a copy of my receipt for the repair. (Believe me, they eventually did).

I put a code reader on the truck and got a Cat code. They wouldn't repair it. 1 week later the truck threw the Cat Code and they replace it. I am now on my 3rd catalytic converter!

The truck just threw another code saying my DEF system needs service and cut my speed to 55MPH. I can also smell the heavy smell of another Cat going bad. Take it to the dealer who says the DEF heater is bad. When I pick up the truck they have replaced the DEF pump, the tank and the heater and put new fluid in it. They refuse to address the Cat smell because the truck is not showing a code. I told them it will break down on me soon. Yep, 40 miles later, the DEF warning and an engine light are back on and the smell is so bad you can't sit in the truck.

Now I am out a vehicle, losing time and money because no dealer can take me in for at least a week!

Calling GMC Customer Service is a frustrating experience in the least. After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on GM vehicles over the last 50 years I am so fed up I am ready to head somewhere else. They certainly do not provide the customer service you would expect. I had one lady basically get nasty with me and tell me I had to pay for the repair and she didn't even know what the problem was.

GMC know this system is bad yet refuses to admit it or offer a solution. BEWATRTE and thi9nk hard before purchasing a GMC truck with the DEF system. Nothing but trouble.
