Hi there;
I'm working on a 2011 Z71 with a 5.3L engine that will not start cold and it's setting codes P0172 and P0175 System too rich, both banks. The only way it'll start is if you hold the throttle to the floor and when it starts you feather the throttle until it runs decent (about five seconds). When it starts it blows a bunch of black smoke from the tail pipe, then it clears up and runs fine. He has no complaints when it's running or when it's hot.
I'm using an Innova 3160 for a scanner. Freeze frame data shows it's setting the codes when it's hot just after starting though. Here's the freeze frame data...
Fuel sys 1 CL
Calc Load 19.2%
ECT 197F
STFT B1 -2.3
LTFT B1 -30.4
STFT B2 -2.3
LTFT B2 -30.4
Fuel press 43psi
MAP 8.8inhg
RPM 620
Speed 0
Spark advance 13
IAT 77F
MAF .739lb/min
TPS 17.6%
Run time 43sec
Command EVAP 0%
Fuel level 89%
Warmup DTC Clr 1
Clr dist 38 miles
EVAP P .005in/H2O
BARO 27.4inhg
CAT te 11 602.6F
CAT te 21 602.6F
Load value 16.8%
EQ ratio .999
Rel TPS 4.3%
Ambient 33F
TPS B 17.6%
ACC pedal D 18.8%
ACC pedal E 9%
Command TAC 5.8%
Everything appears normal except according to what I've read online the LTFT B1&B2 readings should be between 10 and -10 instead of -30.4.
We replaced the fuel pump last week, it was making lots of noise and my scanner showed 9psi with the engine off and 0psi with the engine running. He had the same symptoms before we replaced the fuel pump only he had ten codes instead of just the two that are coming up now. Most of the codes then showed fuel flow and pressure issues along with these two.
Sorry for the very long post but what I've seen online so far doesn't cover both symptoms as I've observed them.
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions.
