Thank you Tom:)

Hi Tom!

My name is Joey, I recently filled Laura's spot in our social media group so I will be taking care of these forums. I tried searching the post you were speaking of but I could not find it. Could you let me know which one it is so I can look further into the situation? Thank you!

Mine does the same every once in awhile, still looking for a fix before I go to the dealer so I can discuss it with them... hate hearing that its normal.

I have a 2011 sierra 5.3 6 speed and I have the same driveline clunk and also another problem. I have noticed that when I am slowing to a stop as the truck reduces speed the transmission will actually surge you forward which creates a dangerous situation. Anyone having any info please advise. My next course of action is to write GM. Thanks in advance.

09 Sierra

I have noticed on my truck @ around 40mph the transmission is trying to step down a gear and if you were to give it some gas, its like it can't decide what gear to pick. I have the same clunking sound that everybody has been talking about also, just seems like the truck can't find the right gear.

Mine only hesitates when you slow down for say someone turning. When you go to speed back up, you almost have to give it half a pedal to get it to take off if you were rolling no throttle and then try to go back to speed.

I've felt the surge on my 2012, so that's something that hasn't been fixed. When slowing down, it's almost like the engine pushes you forward and wants to take off. I was really uneasy the first time I felt it, I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. I haven't noticed it a whole lot since I hit the 5k mile mark, but at times it does noticeably show up. I've also had the problem where the truck doesn't want to take off again after slowing down to let someone turn. I have to give it about half pedal, then I'll hear a clunk and it'll jerk the crap outta me when the truck takes off again. Almost like the transmission can't decide what gear to use until I give it a lot more gas.

surge

it happens when i am going up on slow/stop traffic so i am not looking at the dash it may be happening because it is changing to V8 from V4?
i feel a small surge when cruising on freeway when it goes V8 from V4

Newbie here! I have a 2012 Sierra SLE and have the same issues with the transmission. About 1500 miles on it. I get the same surging and rear end clunking as described. Has anyone gone to service with these complaints? Can they reflash the tranny? The surging can be scary at times but can't seem to reproduce it at will. I'm afraid the dealer will say the don't feel it or I can get it to do it.
I also hate the rear end clunk when accelerating from low spead. If anyone has any luck with resolving these issues please post.

I have taken my 2011 in twice for the same thing and they tell me nothing is wrong!! On the way into work today I notice that it did it again does anyone know why/how to fix this?

How many who complain about trans problems have ever driven a 6 sp trans before or a vehicle that is 100% controlled by a computer, the trans, the gas pedal, the engine all controlled by a computers. The computer also controlls how hard you can accelerate so to not damage the transmission. Drivers think there is something wrong but its just the computer preventing you from doing damage. This is the way vehicles are now, thank all the gov't regulations and such. Its only going to get much worse.

I have been driving one since early 1999 and will admit the first 6 months or so I thought the trans was junk but eventually I adapted to the trans. Some just cannot get used to it, especially with the active fuel management.

We have a 2011 5.3l 2wd 4 door with 32,000 miles and we have had a clunk since day 1. I have taken it to our dealer twice. Yesterday being the most recent trip. The mechanic heard the noise and after meeting and discussing with shop manager they decided to pull the drive shaft and grease the spline at the slip joint. Then began telling me about the nickel plated slip joint they have for a different driveline clunk. Our clunk happens when you are in town, slowing down say for a stop light or stop sign. Take you door off the accelerator, 4 cylinders drop out and right before you come to a complete stop, the 6 speed tranny down shifts as the fuel management system brings the other 4 cylinders back to life and clunk.

I am reading and hearing that this is normal. I struggle with accepting this. This is my first new truck ever (I'm 41) and so I am accustomed to having quirks with not new trucks. This makes this $38,000 feel/sound pretty cheap and has a profound impact on my next vehicle choice.

My other truck is a '95 F250 2wd with 230,000 miles on it and it's as quiet as can be. No driveline noise at all. Our dealer, whom I have nothing bad to say about, basically said the driveline has a certain amount of slack/clearances in it and the 6 speed tranny adds a few more pieces to that and when everything tightens up it will make this clunk.

Sorry - I don't bye that explanation. I'm really appalled to have seen GMs service bulletin stating this very thing.

We love the truck but when you mix in the 15mpg average and this daily clunk - well it certainly influences your next choice on a vehicle.

The dealer is going to change out the slip yoke to a nickel plated one but he told me he didn't think that would resolve it.

It's hard to imagine this clunk not being anything serious. It's hard to imagine it making 230,000 miles making this noise.

From reading other posts, it looks like time will tell.

We will see how the new slip yoke fix goes. Then write GM.

All in all, pretty upsetting and disappointed.

Slip yoke fixed one issue and now we have a active fuel management tranny shifting timing noise. Long story short, for a test we have been driving in manual 5 and getting better mpg and ZERO noise.
