Hello All....

Purchased a brand new 2011 Gmc Sierra 1500 All Terrain At the end of the Year (2011) Spent a pretty penny on it, and now with only 10,000 miles on it, the paint chips on the rocker panels and box are TERRIBLE ! I rarely drive on gravel roads and if I do, its at a slow pace. The aggressive tires on it pick up any and all stones on the roadway. Went to the dealer where I purchased it at, and was basically told there was nothing that could be done besides having it repainted! Why should I have to spend $$$ on something that GM should stand behind? Ive owned three other GM trucks, all sold with over 100,000 miles on them, and never had ANY issues. I want Answers from GM ! Anyone else have any issues like this ? Any and all responses would be greatly appreciated!

+1
And I don't even have aggressive tires on my 2011...
My 2007 Tacoma had fewer rock chips when I traded it in.

I also bought my 2011 GMC Sierra end of 2011 and only have 7k miles on it and also have the same problem! I noticed it around 3k miles and it keeps getting worse. I have pointed it out to several people. I traded in a 2007 NBS Silverado, almost the same exact truck, and never had any issue. There is definitely an issue with this and it's a shame to spend that kind of money and have problems like this. Something needs to be done that's for sure!

I am having an issue with my 2012 GMC Sierra SLE that I purchased in November 2011. I just posted this on another thread so I'm just copying and pasting it here to tell you my issues with the paint. I also agree that the paint shouldn't be chipping after paying that much money for the truck. The problem you're going to run into is that they can try to explain that away as normal wear and tear (doesn't mean it's right) because tires pick up and throw rocks as you drive. The issue I have displays the paint problems a little better because there is no normal wear and tear on the door posts from rocks or anything else.

This is my issue:

I was researching paint issues on Sierra's and found this thread. I bought a 2012 GMC Sierra this past November, in mid December it was dropped off at the dealer for paint chipping warranty work. The problem with mine is the hard plastic window moldings that are on the two back windows (Crew Cab) didn't have enough clearance, apparently while driving, air gets under them and causes them to have a slight vibration, the lack of clearance meant that they just rubbed on the body and chipped off the paint. It was in the exact same location on both back doors. It was painted and taken care of by the dealer, but 90 days later, the EXACT same issue came up. I just got it back yesterday from the dealer who had to paint it a second time, and I gotta tell ya, the clearance on the passenger's side still isn't enough and I can bet it will do the same thing again in a few months.

Each time it's happend it's meant a week without my truck and getting stuck with a crappy rental car, and an economy one at that. I can't do the things I need to do with a car, that's why I bought a truck! What the hell do I do if it happens again? It's a black truck and while the paint was fixed, it's nowhere near the quality of the factory job (it has swirls and it looks like they wet sanded a little too much but painted over it so that part can't be fixed without completely stripping the paint again). Before this I owned a 2003 Silverado for 10 years, never had a problem with the paint, I've been very dissappointed. GM should come out with a recall for those moldings, the dealer said my truck isn't the only one that has had the issue. They haven't replaced the moldings because they said the moldings aren't defective, but doesn't the fit of the part factor into whether or not a part is defective?

2011 extended SLE my truck has the clear plastic/vinyl film at the lower fender bulge in front of the rear tire and the wheel opening right behind the tire i have always disliked that film i guess my mind has changed
have the dealer apply the film
